The
Darcys

The Darcys are the cutting edge of masculinity. They are the new men. Men at home wherever it is they find themselves. They have been described as both a "Victorian Chit Lit Band" and a band for people who love beards. Both descriptions are equally true. They've opened fashion shows and swank art exhibitions. They've played empty bars save for the alcoholic regulars who curse them out between songs. They can wax poetic on the joys of Proust and P.G. Wodehouse and yet, their van will only start after multiple blows to the starter with their trusty hammer. They enjoy verbally sparring about Heidegger as much as they do wrasslin' in the snow after a Constantines show. Labatt 50 or a bottle of Veuve Cliquot? One of each please.
After meeting in early 2006 at the University of King's College in Halifax, The Darcys quickly progressed from shows in campus bars to releasing their first EP "You, Me and the Light" to a packed Horseshoe Tavern.
The band, at the time a four piece comprised of Kirby Best (vocals, guitar), Jason Couse (guitar), Wes Marskell (drums), and Dave Hurlow (bass), took off across Eastern Canada, Ontario and Quebec on a series of short tours in an effort to get their feet wet and figure out just what it means to tour their country. In June of 2007 the Darcys found themselves translating their newly discovered live sound on to their first LP in the Waterloo Children's Museum. A month later, their homemade creation: Endless Water was mixed, mastered and on it's way out into the world. It was met with a warm critical reception: The Toronto star described its sound as "Thom - Yorke - does - Crazy - Horse" and Exclaim! called it: "a stunning collection of songs" having further stated, "while the band's recorded material hints at a sound similar to the Dears, their amped-up live interpretations recall the Constantines at their loudest and most structured, tightly hammering on inventive riffs and then retreating into soft choruses".
With a NXNE appearance, the addition of Mike le Riche (Guitar, Rhodes, Trumpet) and a number of successful Canadian tours in the past year under their belts, the young band will embark on a cross Canada tour this Spring.
