Zines and Quarterlies
The SB Collective began as a small collective of writers and artists getting together once a month to produce a zine and throw events. From 2008 to 2010, Steel Bananas produced a monthly webzine (26 zines) dedicated to Canadian visual art, literature, music, and performance. As the time passed, the collective began to produce a greater number of spinoffs from our digital publications, and our members scattered across Canada, now spanning coast to coast. From late 2011 to early 2013, SB shifted its mandate from digital zines to print and digital publications. The SB Quarterly (5 magazines) was the print and digital manifestation of the original zine, with a greater emphasis on visual art and literature.
As of 2014, SB's zine-making is still a part of our print and multimedia activities, though its structure and content has changed with our mandate to publish and promote quality artist books. Read a letter from our Directors on the future of our zine making in the 2013-2014 publications catalogue.
