Mutable Masculinities: Gender Upheaval in 1960s America traces a new path through the construction of masculine identity in countercultural American fiction. From the self-made man, to the countercultural intellectual, to the Terror Machismo, Folkers maps out the pivotal cultural and ideological shifts within American fiction that perform the re- ordering of masculine identity in the late twentieth century.
